The Beijing Cultural Relics Company (formerly The Beijing Cultural Relics Shop) is located at Wenhua Street of Liulichang, in Hepingmenwai. It was established in May, 1960. As a cultural heritage institution established by the state, the Company¡¯s primary mission is to collect and conserve cultural relics scattered in the society by commercial means; to provide collections and documentation for museums, scientific and technological research institutions, colleges and universities; and supply some common cultural relics to domestic and overseas markets in a planned and selective way, to satisfy the needs of cultural relics lovers.
In its 40 years¡¯ history, the Company has collected approximately 1 million pieces of cultural relics which are scattered in the society for safe-keeping, and has provided tens of thousands of collected items and documents for various museums across the country. Famous pieces include: the Dunhuang Colored Portrait of the Goddess of Mercy of the Tang Dynasty, Mahezhi¡¯s Chirping Deers of the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhao Mengfu¡¯s Drawing of a Water Region of the Yuan Dynasty, Wang Xianzhi¡¯s Ode to the Goddess of Luo River Rubbing from a Stone Inscription at Mount Hua, the West Building Tablet, Tablet on a Mysterious Tower, Imperial Decree in Copper Version of the Qin Dynasty, the Tri-colored Glazed Pottery of the Tang, the Peony and Plum Blossom Bottle of Yungle¡¯s reign during the Ming dynasty, the Snowflake Glazed Blue Bowl of Xuande¡¯s reign in the Ming dynasty, and the Enameled Twin Bottle with Human Figures of Qianglong¡¯s reign during the Qing dynasty.
The Beijing Cultural Relics Company is currently the largest of its kind in China, specializing in cultural relics collection, supply and administration. It has 11 operating departments and 2 purchasing departments. They are engaged in operations related to calligraphy and painting, pottery, enameled bronze ware, jade and glassware, and inscribed stones of past dynasties. In 1994, the Company launched the Beijing Hanhai Artworks Auction Company.
In its 40-year history, the Company has accumulated millions of cultural relics. It has a strong professional and technical team in the appraisal and operation of cultural relics. By displaying, buying and selling cultural relics, appealing to both cultured and popular tastes, and providing sincere services, it has won trust and support from those at home and abroad. |
