Beijing Art Museum of Stone Inscriptions is China s first outdoor museum of various classes of stone inscriptions. It is located in Zhengjue Temple (Five-Pagoda Temple) outside of Xizhimen Gate  and was built during the reign of Ming Emperor Yongle (1403-1424). In the temple grounds, the Diamond Throne Pagoda, constructed in 1474 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and completely overlaid with Buddhist images, is a large carved stone artistic treasure listed in the first group of National Key Cultural Relic Protection Sites.

On the temple grounds, there is a collection of over 1,200 artifacts of stone inscriptions, of which 600 are on display. The Stone Inscription Museum is divided into eight exhibition sections: comprehensive stone inscriptions, tablets of merits and virtues, epitaphs, calligraphy, temples, guildhalls, stone carvings and Christian disciples. Among the museum s most remarkable exhibits are Stone Fence Slab of the Grand Capital of the Yuan Dynasty, Pingzemen gate plaque of the Ming Dynasty, the magnificent Stone Road Pillar outside Guangningmen Gate, Pushengshi Temple Sleeping Stele, and elaborate carved Shixiang Hall of the Qing Dynasty.

The Exhibition Hall of "Man and Stone" also displays 69 pieces of precious stone inscriptions from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) to Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), among which the most typical of Beijing s stone carvings are the remains of the Tablet of Emperor, God and Taoist, and the Stone Man both of the Eastern Han dynasty  (25-220 AD); the Acupuncture Stele of the Song dynasty (960-1279), and Buddhist images of the Bei Qi (Northern Qi 550-577) and Bei Wei (Northern Wei 368-534) dynasties. In the Museum there is a printing and duplication service company that provides top quality Collotype style printing duplication of ancient inscriptions and paintings.
